LIFE

Standard

Life has been good — great and now absolutely flipping amazing.  The past couple of months I’ve been dedicated to working my ass off.  DEDICATED.  I haven’t been inspired to write in awhile, simply because I’ve been to busy “doing” and less interested in “talking” and “writing.”  I finally feel like I can take a moment to breathe.  I didn’t say a “week off” I said “moment.”

I’m inspired and I’m listening to my intuition with my projects.  Three weeks ago I received a call from the Oprah Winfrey Network regarding Unite for Green.  I was asked to submit my story.  Regardless of the outcome I think that’s pretty flippin cool! Lol.  My Unite for Green team members have also started dialogue with some major companies and synergies are being formed for the beginning of the school year solar concert, as well as the programming for the coming year.  Amazing companies such as Island Def Jam have signed on to support Unite for Green, alongside additionally forming synergies with the NBA, Whole Foods and AEG.

Life happens and the most challenging part of this entire project is keeping the ball up in the air because dropping it is just not an option.  In fact, the challenging part of this entire project is keeping the ball SOARING through the air.  It truly didn’t matter how many or what came up in my life — this project has come first.  I simply have had to save the tears for later.  The work is paying off in ways I can’t describe and ways that I don’t think I’m even aware of at this point.  The conversations and phone calls I’ve had surrounding this project has been nothing but blessings after blessings.  Everyone has worked soooo hard and the students are some of the most amazing individuals I’ve ever worked with.

Additionally, there have been some CRAZY turn of events and I have a strong feeling there are going to be some MAJOR changes happening in my life very soon. I’ve had a great month!  I made my trip to Las Vegas and got to hang with my dance family, the Jabbawockeez and one of my very best friends Fayeboogie :D.  It was my first time seeing their show and it almost made me tear up seeing some of their old routines and hearing music from past shows.  Mad nostalgia.  I’m really proud of them.  Post show – we all hooked up and drank and soon found ourselves in a lounge that could’ve acted as a freezer!  It was a lot of fun!

A couple of weeks later … I found myself in beautiful New York City.  I had the time of my life.   I was only there for 36 hours but I got it in!  I was trying to be responsible and get lots of sleep for an important meeting i had the next day … but in the 11th hour I decided to roll.  I met up with my close friend Crazy Legs and Shah Wonders at a venue called Sutra where Pete Rock was playing. There I also saw a friend Dj Waynski and was completely entertained listening to the sweet sounds of Dj June from NYC.  She’s a Japanese female DJ (wooohoo) and she was killin it!

I’ve had more friend in the past month than I’ve had in the last year!  I’ve missed a lot of people and it’s felt incredible to get some QT time in.   I’m so thankful for the relationships in my life, for my family, the blessings and the direction my career is going/heading.  I had roommates for all of 4 days when one of my bestie’s came to town from the bay area.  RJ and Dennis!  It was nice to have their company and have chance to catch up.

The lessons learned in the past year haven’t all been easy but I suppose they were important lessons that I needed to learn.  (maybeeee not alllll of them though.) 🙂  I AM SHOWING UP for everything in my life right now!  It’s not a game!  Get reach for the Honey Live Soul Series coming in May, the JW rooftop Series anddddd the Unite for Green solar concert!  Check out my recap of this last month …. Peace and Love!

CHECK IN WITH YOURSELF –

Standard

Life is  roller coaster – and at times I find myself completely on track and other times – I wonder “how the hell did I get here?” I’ve been listening to my intuition and I’ve been doing what’s good for MY LIFE first.  I have patterns that like to follow me around this road we call “life.”  They can be tricky!  Patterns have disguises, they’re comfortable, they like to always show up at all the wrong times and if your not observant and don’t take action – they will always have a hand in the results you experience.

Love your life and love yourself enough to make the right choices.  I’ve never realized until now – that the choices I make not only effect me but effect all the people in my life who care about me as well. They in turn effect the students who work with me and the people and business associates I work around.   Loving myself has entailed taking a step back and considering what’s good for me FIRST. In the past, I’ve ALWAYS thought about how other people feel FIRST, but if I’m not good – (inside) then it domino’s and the rest of this story is history.

I have a lot going on in my life in the next year.  I HAVE to be at my very best inside – because god’s put A LOT of opportunity in m lap and I want to show up!  Distractions be gone — because I feel so deeply what my calling inside is – and I can’t wait to see how all of this is going to manifest.   Recently, I produced Styles Upon Styles Los Angeles – next stop is New York and Chicago.  The event was amazing! Shortly afterwards, HONEY LIVE hit LA for a 3rd time and music royalty blessed our night:   Stevie Wonder and Ricky Bell from New Edition.

Last week was awesome!  Just wanted to send out a big thank you to ALL who supported Styles Upon Styles LA and Honey Live!

STYLES UPON STYLES — FLIPPIN’ AMAZING!

Standard

Wow, what a difference one month makes.  I have a good reason for not writing for the past 30 days.  Things have been crazy and wonderful all at the same time.  In the last 30 days, Styles Upon Styles came to life and it was an incredible event!

First things first – Styles Upon Styles San Francisco went above and beyond my expectations.    The event was truly spectacular – We reached capacity, the music was ridiculous, the performances were amazing beyond words and the dance community TRULY came out to support Crazy Legs and One Cypher and it’s relaunch.
Much love to some new friends I’ve met along this special journey Dj Mr. E, Sean G & Ezra and Miles of 330 Ritch – it was truly a PERFECT storm.
Styles upon Styles was blessed by the works of Jonas Lynch who did a live performance painting of Crazy Legs.  Philtered Soul did the damn thing alongside all female dance crew the Syrenz!  The screening of Red Bull “Bouncing Cats” was unforgettable and not to be missed when Styles Upon Styles comes to Los Angeles on May 20, 2010!

RISING TO THE OCCASION…

Standard

What a crazy two weeks I’ve had. Actually, instead I should state … “What A Journey I’ve Experienced.”  One of the bumpiest areas in my life I NOW CLOSE.  There comes a point when “enough is enough” and you have to keep moving through it.  Again … “not everyone is like you.”  People have different hearts, motivation, intention and respect.  This last week I felt like “moving to the beach” and just staying there away from everything.  It’s rare that people disappoint me, but when it happens I really feel it.  I doubt that I will ever forget what’s happened but I hope that I will forgive with time.  I hate the way this situation has made me feel inside.  I realize that change is necessary and that sometimes things don’t always make sense … but you have to accept change and stop resisting the urge to try to control what you just can’t.  Just do the best you can and have Faith in GOD that he will help figure the rest of LIFE out with you … but you HAVE TO SHOW UP for him and yourself!

Life keeps moving regardless of what’s going on.  So I had to tell myself to “RISE TO THE OCCASION.”  3 of my new programs are launching in February and March 2010.  In the next 3 weeks I have 3 events scheduled for the Honey Collective + we are launching two new event series.  A music series and a private event series –Both I’m very really excited about.  Styles Upon Styles is launching in March 2010 and we are moving stead fast through the pre-production for that event.  I have just brought on another assistant to help facilitate the daily “action items” of this crazy operation.  Red Bull just signed on to support a minimum of two events for Styles Upon Styles!  San Francisco/ Los Angeles.  Soon to be in Chicago and New York as well.  So yes … the phone calls went well!

New Dates to  Lock In:

February 24th:  Honey Luxe in Los Angeles
February 28th:  Honey Live in Los Angeles
March 25th:  Launch of onecypher.com &  Styles Upon Styles in San Francisco

I look forward to what’s to come.  More good news is on it’s way!  Whenever there’s a storm there’s ALWAYS a rainbow to follow 🙂

Legs, Mona, Fran Boogie + Friends

This is one of my favorite photos with some majorly dope peoples!  Franboogie, Ms. Mona and Legs + some of their cool ass friends!  This was at Yes We Can Can 2010 San Francisco.  This is how I began my year!  111 Minna it was going down!   Cocktails were flowin’, people were dancing and let’s just say  we had wayyyy to much fun.  I had my signature puckered lip peace sign pose LOL and peoples were just relaxin’, posing, dancing, laughing … livin’ life in the sunshine!

UPDATE ON GOALS + LIFE

Standard

It’s been a insanely crazy week of preparation for me.  It’s the first time I’ve really put a significant amount of time, thought and energy into everything that I do.  In the past I would sometimes feel rushed and find myself making careless mistakes.  I’m making a conscious effort to be less reactive, more pro-active and be accountable for my deadlines.  It feels good to slow down a bit and pay more attention; not just to my work but also my relationships and day to day activities.

I had the chance to reconnect with some old friends and I made some really awesome new friends.  I’ve made some really hard decisions mentally that I plan on carrying out, and I’ve been stern with things that in the past I had a hard time sticking to my guns.  I’m growing and I can feel it everyday in the decisions I choose to make, in my newfound responsibility to myself personally and professionally and in the way I’m beginning to look at people and things around me.  My perspective is certainly changing.

I’ve made some traction towards some of my goals this year and I’m going to rise to the occasion when opportunity rings and just see what happens … why not?

UNITED WE BOUNCE- ROLLER SKATING EVENT COMING TO A CITY NEAR YOU!

I will soon be launching a series of Roller Skating events titled, United We Bounce. Hosted by Doug E. Fresh.  This event will launch in February 2010 in Los Angeles.  I met with the owner of the venue this week and it looks like we’re going to be able to get the first event off the ground very soon. We’ve been working on this event for the past 6 months and it felt really good to meet the owner and have a productive and positive meeting.  Booking the venue is always a good start in the right direction.

Styles Upon Styles is set to still launch in San Francisco at the end of February 2010.  We are steadily preparing for the celebration. Again, I have a super important phone meeting on Friday that I’ve been preparing for and I’m crossing my fingers for the opportunity to work with this company.  They would be an amazing addition to the concept and growth.  I’ll definitely keep everyone posted on this.  We are working on solidifying  the logo, budget and promotional partners, t shirt company etc.  I went with Faye Boogie to go scope out the venue that we’re going to use for the Los Angeles Styles Upon Styles.  It’s fresh. I can’t wait!

Rock Your Sole-We hit a little challenge in the road with this event because the venue we’d like to use is completely booked through September 2010.  Every single day.  I couldn’t believe it.  It’s crazy. So we’re going to have to re-think and brainstorm other venue options.  Obstacles like this make everything more worthwhile when everything comes together.  This is the nature of the game.

Non Profit Organization Supporting Haiti Relief

Angels for Haiti — I think we’ve confirmed the date for January 27th 2010 at the Avalon in Hollywood, Ca.  We are currently awaiting confirmation on talent.  Drake Muse – creator of A Taste of Chicago in Los Angeles has signed on to co promote this event as well.  All proceeds will be given to Wyclef’s foundation Yele Haiti. More details to come tomorrow.

United We Bounce will be done in conjunction with the Honey Collective.  I’m very excited to launch our Honey Collective events in 2010. We have so many exciting things planned for our supporters. Our calendar is absolutely amazing and we’re ready to get this year started.  We will be sending out a calendar very soon.  🙂

As for ME! I’m loving and learning more with each day that passes.  I thank god everyday for those special moments that pass  when I feel at peace in my mind and my heart.  I’ve been smiling and laughing, enjoying old friends and making a lot of new ones.  It’s a significant time in my life and it’s my time to SHOW UP … for me.
